adoptable pets at hsp

The Humane Society of Pinellas rescues and adopts out over 3,000 animals annually. We use a match-making process for our adoptions, which means we learn as much as we can about both our pets and our adopters to help you find the perfect companion for your family. While at the shelter, you will be asked to complete our Adopter Profile. This form provides us with information about your routine, pet experience and what personality you are looking for - while we are happy to show you any pet on our adoption floor, we ask that you also allow us to introduce you to some wonderful pets that match what you are looking for!

Keep an eye out for pets available from foster homes! We often give shelter pets a much needed break or some additional exposure by utilizing our foster homes. HSP participates in the ASPCA's Adoption Ambassadors program, in which many foster pets are available for adoption and placed directly from foster care! Pets currently in foster homes have a heart-shaped indicator on their main photo and contact information is in their description.

spotlight pet!

Meet Junior! This big boy has a heart of gold and is looking for someone to be his forever human. Junior would love to take long walks with you in your neighborhood. This large boy knows obedience cues sit, watch me, lie down and paw! He likes to play with toys and will jump up and down after them like a puppy - a very big puppy. Junior walks well on a leash and is very dog friendly.

Junior is available to participate in our foster-to-adopt program! This means that HSP will provide complimentary medical and training services during the engagement. Contact Foster@humanepinellas.org to learn more about fostering this sweet pup today!

Our website is updated live, so if you see a pet's photo, he/she is currently available for adoption. Our Adoption Center is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11AM - 6PM, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10AM - 4PM. No appointment necessary!

Please note, our Adoption Center is closed Wednesdays and Holidays.

adoption programs

The Humane Society of Pinellas offers several adoption programs to support our community.

diamond dogs

In conjunction with Love My Dog Resort & Playground, The Humane Society of Pinellas believes that all senior dogs are true gems! When you adopt a dog aged 7 years or older from HSP, Love My Dog will provide you with ways to pamper your senior, including daycare, grooming and visits to their amazing water park!

Million cat challenge

The Humane Society of Pinellas is a participant in the Million Cat Challenge! Through a combination of efforts, including understanding our capacity for care and helping pet owners avoid shelter surrender, we can help reduce euthanasia not only in Pinellas County, but nationwide. Learn more about the Million Cat Challenge and how your adoption helps save lives!

Pets for Patriots

The Humane Society of Pinellas is a proud partner of the Pets for Patriots program. This program creates unique opportunities for members of the military community to save a life by honorably adopting homeless adult dogs and cats. Much like HSP, Pets for Patriots provides access to additional cost reductions for pet basics, such as food, toys and essential supplies.

Seniors for Seniors

At The Humane Society of Pinellas, we believe that love has no age limit! Adopters age 65 and older are eligible for 15% off their adoption of a dog or cat age 8+, as well as a 15% discount on services for that adopted pet. Whether it be at our retail store, or our Pet Clinic, our senior adopters can save money to support their HSP-adopted pet!
