Pet Clinic: Frequently Asked questions

The HSP Pet Clinic receives questions from concerned patients everyday! Here are a few questions that our veterinarians have answered to help put their minds at ease!

Q: WHAT pain medications can i give my pet?

A: None unless directed by a veterinarian prescription! Please do not give your pets Aspirin, Tylenol, iBprofen, or Steroids. These drugs have ingredients that are toxic to pets causing more damange than good to your pets' internal organs and bloodstream. A medical team cannot give your pet any form of help until 10 days after the drug has completely flushed from it's system. When you see signs of pain in your pet, instead of self medicating, please contact our clinic to schedule an appointment.

Q: WHAT ARE THE BEST FOODS BRANDS TO FEED YOUR PET?

A: The best brands to feed are IAMs, Hills Science Diet, Eukanuba, Purina Pro Plan, Royal Canin. Stay away from items that are labeled “grain-free,” “limited ingredients,” or “raw".

Q: WHAT ARE THE BEST treats TO FEED YOUR dog?

A: We recommend CET Dental Chews, Virbac Dental Sticks, or Greenies for dogs! Sweet potatoes, pumpkins, peas, and carrots are considered healthy for dogs. Please do not give your pet pig ear treats as they are linked to Salmonella and gastrointestinal issues.

We recommend Greenies or Temptations for cats! Please give all treats in moderation.

Q: WHAT people foods are toxic to dogs?

A: Please do not feed your dogs chocolate, garlic, onions, grapes/raisins, nuts (almonds, pecans, macadamia, etc.), avocados, coffee, citrus, caffeine, coconut, coconut oil, alcohol, foods high in fat (bacons, chicken skins, xylitol (in toothpaste, artificial sweeteners, chewing gum).

Q: WHAT plants are toxic to cats?

A: Please do not allow your cats to consume lilies, sago palms, azaleas, marijuana, Yesterday Today & Tomorrows, or Dumbcanes.
