The Humane Society of Pinellas provides a number of benefits to our local community. In many cases we provide services that might not otherwise be available.


  • Relinquished animals - Accepts pets from owners, who for various reasons must give them up. These adoptable animals are sheltered and cared for until new homes are found.  By Appointment Only-- call (727) 797-7722 x232.
  • Strays - Accepts sick and injured animals.

  • Ambulance Service - Picks up sick and injured stray animals 7 days a week.
     
  • Cruelty Investigations - A Humane Officer and several Animal Control Officers are on staff to investigate and if required, prosecute cases of mistreatment of animals within its jurisdiction.

  • SPAY/NEUTER INCENTIVE PROGRAM (S.N.I.P.) - For pet owners with a dog or cat who has recently given birth. Upon relinquishing the entire litter to the Humane Society of Pinellas, we will spay the mother dog or cat at no charge.

  • Vaccinations & License Tags - Provided for Pinellas adopters of dogs and cats who have received rabies vaccines.

  • Microchipping - Provides a permanent microchip identification for pets adopted from the shelter and for all pet owners.

  • Collaboration - Works in close cooperation with police units and public health authorities.

.

  • Education - Has facilities to provide educational material, seminars and field trips for schools, youth organizations and the general public on the handling and welfare of animals.

  • Advocacy - Follows closely all matters relating to the use of animals in scientific and experimental endeavors and voices objections to practices considered cruel.

  • Euthanasia - No adoptable pets are euthanized at our shelter. At the owners request, we have facilities to painlessly and humanely euthanize sick, ill-tempered, over-age and seriously injured animals.

  • Communication - Provides a newsletter to keep you updated on the Shelter, as well as important animal issues and helpful hints.

  • Pet-Friendly Shelter - Operates a Pet-friendly Emergency Shelter with Pinellas County Animal Services.  You must pre-register to stay in a pet-friendly shelter!  Click here for a Registration Form.

  • Provides a "LOST & FOUND" file for all pets in the area.

  • Columbarium - Provides a final resting place for your pets.

.

  • Provides a foster home program for pets too young to be placed for adoption.

  • Provides Wildlife Rescue Rehabilitation.

  • Offer ANIMAL SHELTERING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (A.S.A.P.) to animals in need in other communities. This program sends rescue/relief teams to assist other animal shelters and to assist communities struck by disasters, such as Hurricane Andrew, etc.
