Pinellas County passes tethering ordinance, May 2010

Pinellas County has a new ordinance intended to prevent dogs being left alone and tied in a yard for long periods of time. Tethering of puppies or dogs that are sick or injured is prohibited. Tying a dog to a stationery object, such as a tree or fence, is prohibited unless it is for a reasonable time, such as while the owner completes a temporary task.

However, the dog must have access to water, adequate shelter and dry ground. The ordinance will be enforced primarily with warnings. However, pending investigation, citations and fines of up to $500 could be levied against owners who violate the ordinance.

Read the text here. Know somone who keeps a tethered dog? Contact HSP, or call PCAS at (727) 582-2600.

Momma Rosie's Story Entered in Contest, October 2009

Momma Rosie

Momma Rosie is a feral kitten who grew up on our property at HSP.  We trapped her and spayed her but she died on the surgery table!

Our hard-working vet brought her back to life. But best of all. Momma Rosie has decided that people are good (and give great neck rubs)!  Soon she will find a forever home - indoors!

If Momma Rosie's story wins the contest, the Humane Society of Pinellas will receive a $2000 grant from the Animal Rescue Site!
