Tour Our Shelter
The Humane Society of Pinellas is located on 6 acres in beautiful Clearwater, Florida. We have been at this location since 1949.
Enter our shelter through our beautiful Adoption Center, renovated in October 2007. This center is one of the busiest areas in the shelter, where our friendly Adoption Specialists connect homeless pets with new families, bring lost pets back home, and answer all kinds of questions.
Our state of the art Sterling and Calvin Medical Center, built in 2002, houses our medical clinic and admissions office. Our full-time veterinarian and dedicated medical staff provide care for over 3000 animals each year, including a wide range of treatable conditions. Each animal is considered individually and money is never considered an obstacle to treatment. While they are evaluated for adoption and treated, dogs stay safe and out of the public view in the Barsema Kennels.
HSP’s Deanna Marie Palestra Humane Education Center was dedicated in March of 2008. Through our Humane Education Program, we offer shelter tours, classroom presentations, training sessions, and pet loss support counseling. Stay tuned for a Humane Education summer camp in 2009!
Our dog adoption area features many newly rebuilt kennels and several new play yards where our dogs can get some exercise, learn polite manners, and meet potential new families. While you are here, you can help us increase the dogs’ adoptability through our Open Paw ® program!
In the cat adoption area cats are housed in communal cages so they can keep each other company while they wait for their new families. People over the age of 16 are welcome to enter the cat cages for an up close encounter.
Kitty Kingdom was built in 2005. It houses our kitten room, a communal adult cat cage, and a number of individual cages for cats that prefer to keep their own company.
Shirley Fitzner’s Cat House is a temporary home for special cats that have been at the shelter a while or like a little space for themselves. Cat House cats get some extra room to stretch out while they await their new families.
Dogs come to Spencer & Roxy’s Playhouse (aka the Real Life Room) to get a break from the kennels, and get used to the smells and sounds of a home environment. The Real Life Room also serves as a base for our Behavior and Enrichment Volunteers to operate the Kong program. Watch the story on zootoo.com!
Our newest addition is the Small Wonders Villa, housing our littlest adoptable pets! Rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, and birds live in this special air conditioned room while they wait for their new homes.
With our Animal Ambulances and Animal Rescue Trailer, HSP picks up and transports injured and sick stray animals, conducts animal cruelty investigations, and transports animals for large scale rescue or adoption events.
