Volunteering

Volunteers are a vital part of our shelter. HSP relies on our volunteers to work with our cats, dogs, and small wonders in the adoptions areas, assisting with raising funds, and educating our community on our services and programs amongst other areas. Your time is a valuable gift and just a few hours a week will make an incredible difference in the lives of homeless animals.
Our regular status volunteers
- Are 16 years of age or above (see Opportunities for those under 16)
- Commitment: Adult direct animal contact volunteers commit to a 2-3 hours per week (standing commitment shift). Other adult volunteers commit to being active on a more flexible basis throughout a year. Teens upon acceptance are assigned an area of responsibility and shift (date/time) to occur twice monthly for the Spring, Summer and Fall periods.
- When working directly with our animals, must be able to squat, bend, twist, lift or stand for periods of time, as well as commitment to our Open Paw methods.
- Possess strong customer service skills as all volunteer positions work directly with the public, staff, and other volunteers.
