Adoptable Pets at Humane Society of Pinellas

VISITOR GUIDELINES

We are open to the public on a first come, first serve basis. Due to our shelter being under construction and having limited space for visiting adoptable animals, a HSP Staff or Volunteer will sign you in at the Adoption Gate. A counselor will escort you to either the cat adoption building or dog kennels depending on your interest. We ask for the safety of our guest and animals, you do not enter the adoption area unescorted.

Our website is updated live, so if a pet’s photo is present, he/she is currently available for adoption. To see our Adoption Center hours of operation, please visit our Contact Us page. Contact [email protected] or 727-797-7722 then choose option #2 for additional questions or information.

Adoption Process

The Humane Society of Pinellas rescues and adopts out over 2,600 animals annually. We use a match-making process for our adoptions, which means we learn as much as we can about both our pets and our adopters to help you find the perfect companion for their families!

While at the shelter, you will be asked to provide your contact information prior to viewing a pet. You will then meet with an adoption counselor who will introduce you to our pets and share everything we know about them, including personality, background and medical history. While we are happy to show you any pet on our adoption floor, we ask that you also allow us to introduce you to some wonderful pets that match what you are looking for!

Adoption Programs

MILLION CAT CHALLENGE

The Humane Society of Pinellas is a participant in the Million Cat Challenge! Through a combination of efforts, including understanding our capacity for care and helping pet owners avoid shelter surrender, we can help reduce euthanasia not only in Pinellas County, but nationwide. We follow the Five Key Initiatives: providing alternatives to intake, managing admission, implementing capacity for care, removing barriers to adopt, and TNVR resources.

PETS FOR PATRIOTS

The Humane Society of Pinellas is a proud partner of the Pets for Patriots program. This program creates unique opportunities for members of the military community to save a life by honorably adopting homeless adult dogs and cats. Much like HSP, Pets for Patriots provides access to additional cost reductions for pet basics, such as food, toys and essential supplies.

SENIORS FOR SENIORS

At The Humane Society of Pinellas, we believe that love has no age limit! Adopters age 65 and older are eligible for 15% off their adoption of a dog or cat age 7+.
