Operational Changes During COVID-19

Due to the progression of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), the Humane Society of Pinellas (HSP) will be adhering to the CDC and health department recommendations for your protection as well as our staff and pets. We thank you for your patience and support during this time.

*All operating procedures are subject to change due to the advancements in the state of emergency. Please stay up to date by following this post or social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Adoption Center

We are open to the public on a first come, first serve basis and are limiting our capacity to 50% in order to keep both our staff and community safe during this pandemic. HSP continues to provide an essential service to the community by intaking pets in need and finding adoptive homes. In order to continue operations, we must reduce the potential spread of the virus by taking extra precautions.

The Adopt page of our website is updated live, so if a pet’s photo is present, he/she is currently available for adoption.

All HSP staff members will be wearing appropriate face or mask coverings and maintaining a 6 foot social distance while interacting with our visitors and the public.

  • All visitors entering HSP facilities must be wearing appropriate face or mask coverings while maintaining at least a 6 foot social distance.
  • We may only host 17 guests at a time. If we reach capacity, our staff will capture the customer’s name and vehicle information and then direct them to their vehicle to sit in comfortably or the customer may wait outside to be allowed admittance to the facility. If a customer chooses to wait in their vehicle, a team member will retrieve them when the capacity load allows for it.
  • Plexiglass barriers have been installed at all desks and reception areas, and door handles and all touchable surfaces will be sanitized every hour.

Please only use this service if you are in need.

  • To pick up food, please arrive at our Volunteer Village, located at our facility, knock on the door, and an HSP representative will assist you. Please wait patiently outside the door and we will bring the food out to you.
  • We are constantly in need of donations for Pet Food Pantry. If you have any physical donations from our Wish List that you are able to donate, please drop them off in the blue bin located outside our Adoption Center during our operating hours.

Pet Hospital

Our community Pet Hospital is at 2907 State Road 590, Suite 5, Clearwater, FL, in the Mission Hills Plaza near Johnny’s Italian Restaurant and will remain open during 8am to 5pm on weekdays.

  • We are allowing 1 family member per pet, and a maximum of 4 human customers with their pets, in our waiting room at a time. Customers must wear a face covering while inside and abide by the 6 foot social distancing policy.
  • We want to take care of your pets just like you do, so we are pleased to offer our online pharmacy services. We offer both pick up and delivery options for your convenience!
    • Delivery: To minimize the potential spread of the virus through face-to-face contact, we recommend that you order prescriptions through Vet’s First Choice as they offer home delivery options. Your purchase through Vet’s First Choice helps HSP’s homeless pets, too!
    • Pick Up: If you prefer to pick up your prescription refill from our HSP Pet Hospital, please fill out the Prescription Refill Request through our website and a staff member will be in contact with you to schedule a pickup day and time. Please allow the hospital a minimum of one week to prepare your prescription refill.
