Keeping Seniors With Their Pets
The Humane Society of Pinellas understands that pets can be expensive, so we proudly help over 200 homebound and low-income seniors stay together with their pets by relieving the financial strain of pet ownership. Our Senior Pet Connection program helps ensure the welfare of their pets and gives seniors peace-of-mind by providing regular deliveries of pet food and cat litter.
Owning a pet has been proven to benefit all communities, especially seniors. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the bond and interaction with a pet can decrease blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides and feelings of loneliness and increase opportunities for exercise, outdoor activities, and socialization.
Hear Kathleen’s Story
Senior Kathleen Jack shares her experience with HSP’s Senior Pet Connection. Each month an HSP volunteer visits Kathleen to give her pets food, helping to provide relief to Kathleen and care for the pets of our community. She is even able to get her pets cared for medically.
