Keeping Seniors With Their Pets
The Humane Society of Pinellas understands that pets can be expensive, so we proudly help over 260 homebound and low-income seniors stay together with their pets by relieving the financial strain of pet ownership. Our Senior Pet Connection program helps ensure the welfare of their pets and gives seniors peace-of-mind by providing monthly deliveries of pet food, cat litter, potty pads, and assistance with veterinary care.
Owning a pet has been proven to benefit all communities, especially seniors. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the bond and interaction with a pet can decrease blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides and feelings of loneliness and increase opportunities for exercise, outdoor activities, and socialization.
Hear Kathleen’s Story
Senior Kathleen Jack shares her experience with HSP’s Senior Pet Connection. Each month an HSP volunteer visits Kathleen to give her pets food, helping to provide relief to Kathleen and care for the pets of our community. She is even able to get her pets cared for medically.
To be in our Senior Pet Connection program, the following eligibility requirements must be met:
Due to limited funding, the Humane Society of Pinellas is unable to accept additional clients at this time.
Help Senior Pet Connection
HSP relies heavily on our community for programs like Senior Pet Connection to operate! Not only do we need donations, but we need volunteers to help with packing food, delivering supplies throughout Pinellas County, maintaining inventory, and helping with administrative tasks. Please consider checking out our donation and SPC volunteer opportunities.
